Yippee . . . school holidays are here! I can stay home all day . . . . no trips to school, kindy, dancing, netball or anything else that drags me away from the sewing machine.
. . . had a very productive day, although I wish I could start one project & finish it before starting another . . . there’s quite a bit going on!
. . . this is something I started AGES ago for Heidi but really didn’t know what to do with it . . . until today!
. . . (did anyone see the Red Riding Hood movie recently? I’m a sad Twilight fan so of course I went with my other ‘really’ sad Twilight friend . . . needless to say, it wasn’t Twilight) . . . I’m waffling!
. . . these look VERY bright . . . (me thinks thats my bad editing) . . . but dinners in the oven so no time!
. . . there’s a frog thing happening in the studio . . . it’s a BIG project so it will take me a while to get it finished but I’ve shown you now so I had better get on with it!

I am really quite excited that I am going to be back teaching again next term as I really miss it. I have teamed up with the lovely Jemima from Tied with a Ribbon who used to be a customer of mine but as a high school home economics teacher, she is very talented in her own right. The courses are structured over four weeks & each week there will be a new project to make that will teach specific skills. We are incorporating a bit of everything, a bit of dress making, a bit of bag making, a bit of patchwork, a bit of hand sewing & the aim is to teach a range of techniques to last a lifetime as well as helping with any tricky issues that might have you stumped at the sewing machine.
Having taught applique, patchwork & quilting for the last few years but loving to sew just about anything, we thought it would be a nice idea to design each course around a theme. The first class is ‘Sewing for You’, a range of great little projects that are relatively simple but absolutely gorgeous – don’t we all love a homemade gift that looks like it was bought in an exclusive boutique? I’ve posted a picture showing a little of what we will be up to in this class.
The other course is ‘Sewing for Kids’, not stuff for kids to sew but stuff for grown ups to sew for kids to use!! Still finishing a few of the projects but I’ll hopefully have a few pictures to show by the end of the week.
We are also in the planning stages of our Sew-Along Social night – this should be great fun night, bring a project, meet some new like minded people, be inspired by everyones genius, learn some new skills, drink a little wine (did I just say that) & basically just enjoy. Lots more about that soon!
Better head back the the sewing machine . . . or perhaps that should be the kitchen before my girls starve x x

My youngest daughter Heidi has a great mate, (although she’d never admit it as he’s a ‘boy’) & he turned five this week. Back when he was little I designed a Pirate quilt for him & over the past few years his mum & grandma have been sewing pillows & bunting to create a fantastic ‘pirate’ theme for his room.
With that in mind I thought he needed a parrot to go with his pirate quilt so I put together this monogrammed cushion with a bright & rather handsome parrot.

I had anticipated that a five year old really couldn’t give a stuff about a fancy cushion so I included a packet of smarties in his parcel! I’d like to think it was my hours of hard work that made him grin from ear to ear but I rather suspect it was the chocolates!
Every good young ‘pirate’ needs a tidy place to put their pyjamas so I also made him a drawstring bag to put them in.

Found the fab striped fabric at Ikea which has to be the best fabric shop ever as it offers one hours free child care & $3 limitless coffee!
